Welcome to the Spring 2022 Semester

Posted over 3 years ago  in Parent and Family NewsStudent Success.

Welcome to the Spring 2022 semester at UMBC. As we embark upon a new semester, please take a moment to review the important information shared recently with students:

  • Classes begin Monday, January 31. We encourage you to review your schedule via myUMBC. Please note that having access to Blackboard does not constitute formal registration in a course. It is also against university policy to participate in or attend a course if you are not on the class roster.
  • Please take a moment to review key dates and deadlines available on the Spring 2022 Undergraduate and Graduate calendars. Important information on registration policies, procedures, and deadlines is available on these calendars. For example, the last day to add a course or to drop a course without a "W" is Friday, February 11. Be mindful of implications regarding your academic record, course repeats, grading, and billing. There may be financial implications depending on when the course(s) is dropped.
  • Monitor your waitlist status. If you have placed yourself on a waitlist for any course section, you have automatically assumed enrollment responsibility for that particular course. This includes financial obligations. For example, over the break, you may have automatically moved from a waitlist status to an enrolled status in a section. If you no longer wish to be enrolled in that section you should remove yourself from the course no later than Friday, February 11.
  • Review and update your UMBC profile. You can view and update your personal information including online/print directory information, emergency contact information, chosen name, social identifiers (pronouns, gender identity and LGBTQ+ identity), military status and ethnicity information by clicking "profile" on the top navigation menu of myUMBC. You can also check and verify your major and degree progress information.
  • Profile sharing is available. You can share your class schedule and grade history with anyone with a myUMBC, Google or Facebook account. This feature could be used to share your grades with your family members and your class schedule with your study group. For more information, visit profile sharing.
  • Should you have any questions regarding your course schedule or need assistance with registration matters, please contact the Registrar's Office. If you have questions regarding COVID-19 health and safety guidelines and requirements, please contact covid19@umbc.edu.

Best wishes for a successful and rewarding semester.

    Sincerely,

    Pam Hawley
    University Registrar
