Out of the Darkness: Suicide Prevention Walk

Join the UMBC Family Advisory Board for this year's Suicide Prevention Walk. In collaboration with the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP), UMBC will be hosting our annual suicide prevention walk. This year our walk will happen in person on Saturday, April 29, 2023, right outside of the Center for Well-Being at UMBC! On-site registration begins at 10:00 AM. The Walk Program begins at 11:00 AM.
This walk is one of our opportunities to come together as a community to raise awareness about suicide prevention and find ways to support others on their journey out of the darkness. Mental health and suicide prevention are more important now than ever. Coming together as a community for events like this reminds us that we are not alone and that help is available. It’s free to register. Visit afsp.org/umbc to learn more about the event and to register your team today!
Please help spread the word! We are encouraging everyone (students, faculty, staff, family, & friends) to join in by:
- Registering with our UMBC Family Advisory Board Team or Create Your Own Team
- donating, and
- promoting the event through social media outlets using #HopeWalksHere and #stopsuicide or just spreading the word
We raised over $7,000 last year, and this year, our giving goal is $8,000. Funds raised allow the AFSP to fund research, create educational programs, advocate for public policy, and support survivors of suicide loss. The AFSP Maryland Chapter is committed to spending these funds locally, so with your support, we will be able to continue to host educational programs and provide support to survivors of suicide loss right here at UMBC and in the surrounding community.
The Family Advisory Board appreciates your commitment to supporting mental health here at UMBC! Thank you in advance for your support!
