Five Steps for Successful Advising, Course Selection, and Registration for Spring 2024

  1. Schedule a meeting with your academic advisor - this is a required step for registration. Updated departmental advising contact information can be found on your new myUMBC Profile page. Students without a declared major or transitioning between majors should contact the Office for Academic and Pre-Professional Advising for an appointment. If you need to change your major, here is information about that process.
  2. Look up your earliest registration time based on the number of credits you have earned (including transfer courses but not "in progress" for Fall 2023 courses).
  3. Check your myUMBC Profile to ensure you have no outstanding obligations to the university that may prevent you from registering (such as past-due balances or required vaccinations). Additionally, you should visit your myUMBC Profile to review your program's suggested four-year academic pathway, check your degree requirements and status, and update your degree plan.
  4. Meet with your academic advisor to discuss your educational goals, long-term plan, and proposed courses for Spring 2024. After this meeting, your academic advisor will enter advising clearance for registration.
  5. Register for classes at your earliest registration time. Check your final class schedule carefully to ensure it reflects the plan you discussed with your academic advisor.

Degree Completion Strategies & Tools

As you're planning, remember that you need to Finish 15 credits per semester (or 30 credits per year) to graduate on time. Registering for Winter 2024 courses can help students get ahead or catch up on their completion goals. We suggest visiting your myUMBC Profile to update your degree plan that you can share with your advisor and revisit each semester.
